Nelson at its Best has partnered with the Nelson Public Library and The Civic Theatre to put on a free public event, Exploring Public Space, on Monday May 30 at 7:00pm …either in person at the Civic Theatre or online via Zoom.
This initial event will feature a compilation of stimulating, inspiring and creative video segments from experts in the areas of placemaking and urban design, as well as some small audience conversations around our experience and ideas of public space.
Public space is non-private area accessible to everyone – all the open spaces, the streets and sidewalks, and the civic buildings where the community meets and gathers. It is a vital feature of community life—social, economic, environmental and cultural.
For more perspective, here is a link to a recent (May 12) Column in The Nelson Star:
This is an opportune time to engage in a discussion of what public space means to us as a community, what we could do to enhance it, and what we can learn from other cities.
We hope you can come and be a part of the beginning of this initial community exploration. Locally, Covid numbers are falling, so if you feel comfortable attending in person, just show up at the Civic Theatre for a 7pm start.
